Colossal steps

"Trouble does not come only from above and below, my friends."

Carved into the side of the mountain range that holds up the northern reaches of the endless desert are meter-high steps, rising upward for miles. Some say colossal beings carved these towering stairs into the mountainside at the command of a king who sought to reach the plateau of False Heaven. Others suspect wielders of magical weapons, who, blessed with strength beyond mankind, used the steps as they pleased. There are also those who believe that the nesting races of the mountainside clawed the path into being, making the ascent easier for two-legged creatures and thus luring more “visitors” to feed their young. Whatever the truth may be, anyone who dares to climb the stairway must be sharp of mind and hellishly prepared.
